Nawasuji is the third pillar of study in the Yagami Ryu, shifting the focus from creating fixed shapes to using the rope as a tool for managing the body.

Unlike other shibari styles that rely on rigid patterns or predefined rope designs, the Yagami Ryu emphasizes the practical role of rope in erotic interaction.

From the perspective of erotic experience, it’s unrealistic to assume that the same rope pattern or figure will excite everyone, no matter their preferences. After all, not everyone likes the same ice cream flavor.

In fact, based on personal experience and conversations with students and practitioners, sticking to fixed patterns can quickly become dull, demotivating, and, in many cases, lead to insecurities and frustrations that disrupt the erotic dynamic.

Of course, ropes and recognizable patterns are central to shibari.

But at the Shibari School - Shibari Dojo, we take a different approach: we focus on mastering the technical fundamentals and understanding the physics behind applying ropes to a restrained body.

In this framework, the rope’s purpose is to reinforce anatomical restraint and provide support to the person being tied.

Remember, we’re not tying an inanimate object but an active person. The goal isn’t to immobilize them but to heighten their stimulation and arousal through restraint.

Skills Step by Step

For safe, efficient, and fluid erotic interaction, the person tying must develop strong rope-handling skills.

All of them? Not necessarily.

Mastering the manual skills needed for advanced shibari takes time, practice, and dedication. We understand that not everyone can commit the time and energy required.

That’s why our training program is modular, with each step or technique building on what’s been learned before.

This way, everyone can use the techniques they’ve mastered with confidence, safety, and satisfaction, without feeling pressured to tackle complex processes beyond their abilities or interests.

This safe and efficient approach helps the person tying build confidence in their skills, freeing them from the stress of handling situations they’re not comfortable with.

For example, many of you have shared that you feel frustrated or uneasy with suspensions because they’re techniques you haven’t mastered yet and carry higher risks for the person being tied.

There are no shortcuts here; these are hands-on skills that require time and dedication, and I know that’s not always easy.

But at the same time, I trust in your ability to act responsibly and stay within the limits of your skills.

This is key: it’s not about reaching a specific destination or completing a complex process with all its intermediate steps. Nor is it about making your ties look like someone else’s or a picture-perfect result.

No, the only goal of erotic shibari is to enjoy ourselves, fulfill our desires together, and do so safely.
