To mark the 10th anniversary of Haruki Yukimura’s passing, his son Keisuke Higurashi has launched a crowdfunding campaign to organize an exhibition bringing together the works Yukimura created during his lifetime.
The goal is also to publish a chronological record of his work—a promise father and son made to each other years ago.
Haruki Yukimura (1948–2016) was an AV (adult video) director, video producer, and photographer. He began his career as a director specializing in kinbaku, but over time started appearing in his own works, tying models himself to highlight the dynamic beauty of the female body during the tying process.
By the mid-1990s, he had developed a distinctive style emphasizing “the dynamics of the tying process” and “communication with the person being tied.” This approach solidified in the 2000s, when he applied it across numerous productions under the banner of the “Yukimura style.”
Even after being told he had only a year to live, he kept working with passion: he held photo shoots every month until the end, leaving behind a substantial artistic legacy.
Keisuke Higurashi and Carrying the Legacy Forward
Keisuke Higurashi (1977–) is a photographer and art director. His work isn’t about chasing visual novelty; it’s about capturing the essence of the subject in front of the lens. He has specialized in fashion photography, earning recognition particularly in the hairdressing industry: he won the Japan Grand Prix in the photography category at the hairdressing competitions in 2008 and 2009. His portfolio also spans K-pop, LDH artists, and 2.5D theater, refusing to be boxed into a single genre.
As the son of a kinbaku master, he took part in photo shoots for SM Sniper magazine, collaborations in which his father gave him the stage name “Keisuke Higurashi.” That shared work on kinbaku sessions shaped the way he captures the essence of his subjects.
Higurashi has also collaborated on cover designs and graphic materials for adult videos, and in recent years has focused on exhibiting his own photography.
The Project: An Exhibition and a Photo Book
The project runs on an “All-in” basis: whether or not the funding goal is reached, the exhibition will go ahead and rewards will be delivered to supporters.
Funds raised will be allocated to three main areas:
- Exhibition costs: venue rental, printing, and framing of photographs.
- Reward production: manufacturing items for backers.
- Photo book production: scanning negatives, editing, and printing the catalog.
The exhibition will be held at two venues in Tokyo—Asakusabashi and Omotesandō—and all rewards include an entry ticket.
Rewards on offer include:
- Kinbaku photographs by Haruki Yukimura, works created during his lifetime.
- Previously unseen photographs by Haruki Yukimura from his final years.
- Kinbaku photographs in the “Yukimura style,” taken by his disciples (Shun Ken/Keiko × Saiki Ichika, Shun Shō/Toburo Eve × Shizuki Iroha, Shun An/Yū × Akane).
- An acrylic diorama—a 100 mm (about 4-inch) cube—featuring a kinbaku work by Haruki Yukimura.
- A photo book of kinbaku works by Haruki Yukimura’s disciples, with new and unpublished photographs (B5 size, around 40 pages), which can include the supporter’s name.
- A photo book of unpublished works from Haruki Yukimura’s later years (B5 size, around 50 pages), which can also include the supporter’s name by entering it in the “Name for credits” field after backing the project.
