The Onawa Asobi (大縄あそび) event kicked off in 2009 at Yoi Yoshida's Good-Studio with a fresh, game-changing vibe: a stage for talented amateur "bakushi" who weren't chasing pro status but whose craft deserved the spotlight.
Right from its debut, featuring artists like Hajime Kinoko (一鬼のこ) and Kasumi Hourai (蓬莱かすみ), the event stood out for its collaborative spirit—everyone, pros included, pitches in for free on everything from greeting guests to slinging drinks.
Over the years, Onawa Asobi has solidified its spot as a cornerstone of Japan's kinbaku scene, branching out with editions in Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima (like the 2017 "Hiroshima Onawa Asobi"), and welcoming hundreds of performers.
Some of the standout names who've graced its stages include Akira Naka (奈加あきら), Ranki Kazami (風見蘭喜), Ero Ouji (エロ王子), and Ren Yagami (鵺神蓮), just to name a few.
