Takumi Miura was one of the most influential rope artists of the Heisei era, yet his name remains little known outside Japan.
This article pays tribute to his memory, honoring a master whose technique, career, and warmth of humor continue to serve as an inspiration.
Born in the 1960s, Miura entered Akechi Denki’s circle during the 1980s. Together they founded the Bakuyukai 縛友会 (Rope Friends Society) in the 1990s, with Miura taking on the responsibility of carrying the group forward after Akechi’s passing.
He also ran his own Tokyo venue, Ability Studio, where he hosted sessions and events up until only weeks before his sudden death in November 2021.
Professionally, Miura worked extensively in the adult film industry and collaborated frequently with leading SM magazines.
A milestone of his career is the four-DVD series Kinbaku Gigata Hōten 緊縛技形宝典, in which he carefully demonstrates his approach and techniques. These DVDs have become rare collectors’ items; until recently they could be purchased from the now-closed SunShop.
Today, finding a copy is valuable not just for study but as an important piece of kinbaku history.
Similarly, many of the films featuring Miura were once available through Japanese distributors, but changes in legislation regulating Japan’s adult industry have led to their removal from online catalogs.
